Ultimately, as activists and organizers, we must not focus our energy on mere police reform. We cannot reform a system premised on the violent protection of private property and maintenance of class hierarchy.
Finding Comradeship and Building Trans Solidarity with ROC DSA
As a transgender person, being politically involved is important to me – especially at a time when trans rights are being heavily legislated. Belonging to political organizations helps give me a sense of meaning as well as community. So naturally, when I moved to a new city where I knew nobody, I sought out the local DSA chapter.
Not Another Nickel, Not Another Dime: Why We March for Palestine
On Saturday, Rochester DSA and allies continued to mobilize against the ongoing genocide of Palestinians and their unjust occupation. Community Members Call on Monroe County Legislature President Sabrina Lamar and County Executive Adam Bello to Call for a Ceasefire in Gaza
Our decision to address the County Legislature is directly connected to County Executive Adam Bello’s complete silence on the slaughter of nearly 20,000 Palestinian people, and his decision to fly an Israeli flag outside of the County building, while the Israeli government commits a genocide against the Palestinian people. Two million lives are on the line. We say: Not on our dime! No money for massacres! Ceasefire now!
Telling Her Story: DSA Visits the Harriet Tubman Home
As Du Bois recounts in Black Reconstruction, enslaved peoples did not submit passively to their condition but found ways to overcome it. Tubman escaped her enslavers in 1849, but famously returned to the South on numerous occasions with the aim of freeing members of her family. Overall, she rescued approximately seventy people, while advising many more on means of escape.
