Month: July 2024

Rochester Red Star | August 2024 (Issue 04)

Posted on July 30, 2024

Thank you for being here, comrades. We have a rough time ahead of us, whether we’re organized or not, and by being a part of DSA you are certainly contributing to history, and (I believe) to the socialist project and the eventual liberation of the international proletariat. Solidarity, forever.

The GOP’s Stalinesque Plan 2025 to Shape the Future of U.S. Food and Agriculture

Posted on July 29, 2024

“The blessings of Liberty” unleashed through this plan would drive the movement for food sovereignty back into the shadows. From every indication, however, it is a last-ditch effort. Whatever the election outcome in 2024, the farmers and conscious eaters in every state and county are reaffirming their liberated territory and joining hands along the food chain for cooperation, solidarity, and community.

State of Queer Roc

Posted on July 14, 2024

It is clear: In order to defeat Trump, Biden must withdraw from the contest. As DSA’s National Political Committee recognized, “If Biden is the nominee in November, Trump will be president in January.” In addition, due to his failure to stem the flow of Palestinian bodies, he should resign. We are disappointed by nominal “socialists” who have attached themselves to this legacy.

The Perversion of Freedom

Posted on July 4, 2024

This month the United States will observe the Fourth of July, our annual celebration of “freedom.” Undeniably, it’s worth paying tribute to the sloughing off of hereditary monarchy, a form of government which “ha[d] laid . . . the world in blood and ashes,” according to Founding Father Thomas Paine. Yet the continuation of slavery and settler colonialism following the victory over these “crowned ruffians” constitutes no state of freedom.

Resolution Affirming ROC DSA’s Alignment with National DSA on Cuba

Posted on July 3, 2024

THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Rochester Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (ROC DSA) affirms National DSA’s stance in solidarity with the Cuban socialist struggle, and in opposition to the United States’ (and its allies’) economic blockade and sanctions on Cuba.
